Dr. Joshua Shaw is a fellowship-trained surgical oncologist whose practice spans the full breadth of complex general surgery — with a primary focus on cancers of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and biliary system. He treats patients across South Florida at five hospitals in Broward County, performing both robotic and open procedures depending on what is best for each patient.
His patients describe an approach that pairs technical precision with unhurried attention. Cancer diagnoses often arrive in the worst week of someone’s life, and Dr. Shaw believes the surgeon’s role begins long before the operating room — with a clear explanation of options, an honest accounting of risk and outcome, and a genuine partnership through every stage of treatment and recovery.
When operating, Dr. Shaw favors minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic approaches whenever clinically appropriate, reserving open technique for cases where it offers the safer or better outcome. He works closely with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, and primary care physicians to ensure each plan reflects the full spectrum of available care.
